Civil society activists plan to protest in Kinshasa, DRC, Sept 25 to demand liberation of opposition politicians. Clashes possible.

Warning

Civil society activists and opposition political parties plan to demonstrate in Kinshasa Sept. 25. They are demanding the liberation of prominent opposition figure Seth Kikuni and other imprisoned opposition supporters. Protesters plan to gather near the Palace of Justice in the Gombe area from 09:00. Up to several thousand people could participate in the demonstration.

Heightened security is likely in Gombe ahead of and during the protest. Disruptions to road travel are likely; security forces could restrict access to nearby buildings. Clashes between police and demonstrators are possible. Protesters could engage in acts of violence, including arson and vandalism.

Avoid the protest due to possible clashes. Plan for road travel delays. Do not drive through roadblocks; wait for police to clear them. In the event of violence, seek shelter in the closest, nongovernmental building.
