Ecuador: Authorities fully restore electricity service after power outage affects areas across country Sept. 7 /update 1

Power outage affects several provinces across Ecuador Sept. 7; authorities assert electricity service fully restored in affected areas.

Critical

Ecuador's National Electricity Operator (Operador Nacional de Electricidad, CENACE) has confirmed that electricity service has been fully restored after a power outage affected several provinces across the country on Sept. 7. CENACE attributed the hours-long outage to a technical fault that impacted the Paute hydroelectric plant. In Quito, the power outage reportedly caused business disruptions and prompted authorities to deploy hundreds of personnel to facilitate the flow of traffic at intersections with malfunctioning traffic lights.

Residual transport, business, and telecommunications disruptions may continue to affect parts of the country over the coming hours.

Prepare for possible residual disruptions to transport, business, and telecommunications across parts of Ecuador impacted by the power outage. Verify that security systems are operational. Ensure that generators are functional and fully fueled.
