Ecuador: Bus workers striking in Guayaquil Sept. 9

Bus workers affiliated with the Federation of Urban Transporters of Guayas (Federacion de Transportadores Urbanos del Guayas, FETUG) in the Guayaquil Metropolitan Area have begun a strike on Sept. 9. As a result, at least 44 of the city's 58 transport cooperatives have suspended activities, disrupting service on multiple bus lines. Services by the Sistema Metrovia have not been affected as of early Sept. 9.

Related protests are possible. In addition to the direct impact on public transport in Guayaquil, the walkout is likely to result in increased traffic congestion and demand for taxis, app-based ride-sharing, and metro services.
