Eritrea, Ethiopia: Ethiopian Airlines flights to and from Asmara International Airport suspended from Sept. 3

Ethiopian Airlines suspends operations indefinitely to and from Asmara International Airport, Eritrea, effective Sept. 3. Reconfirm flights.

Informational

Ethiopian Airlines (ET) has suspended all flights to and from Asmara International Airport (ASM) in Eritrea from Sept. 3. The airline stated on Sept. 2 that its operations at ASM would be halted due to Eritrea's highly challenging operating environment, but did not elaborate further. Prior to this, the Eritrean Civil Aviation Authority announced on July 21 that all Ethiopian Airlines flights in Eritrea would be suspended from Sept. 30 for undisclosed reasons.

The flight suspension will impact Ethiopian Airlines passengers booked to travel between Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) in Ethiopia and ASM. Passengers booked to fly to or from ASM via Ethiopian Airlines can choose to receive a full refund or be booked on an alternative airline.

Contact Ethiopians Airlines directly if impacted by the suspension. Rebook on alternative airlines to fly via ASM as soon as possible. Do not check out of accommodations until travel is confirmed.
