Authorities are disposing of an unexploded WWII bomb on Susanne-Ihsen-Strasse in Kaiserslautern late Sept. 26. The 250-kg (550-lb) device was discovered during construction work earlier in the day. Authorities have implemented a 300-meter (328-yard) safety radius around the site, evacuated the vicinity, and suspended rail transport in the area.

Heightened security, evacuations, and road closures will likely continue in the affected area through at least late Sept. 26. Rail transport disruptions are probable. Additionally, residual transport and business disruptions are likely following the end of the disposal operation.

Avoid the bomb disposal operation area. Allow additional time if traveling near the evacuation zone and for rail travel via Kaiserslautern. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities.
