Greece: Activists to demonstrate in urban centers nationwide Sept. 19
Activists to protest nationwide, in including Athens, Thessaloniki, and Patras, Sept. 19. Heightened security, transprot disruptions likely.
Activists plan to protest in urban centers across Greece Sept. 19. The purpose of the demonstrations is to express solidarity with a prisoner conducting a hunger strike, and the demonstrations coincide with a national call for related protests. It was not immediately clear how many participants may attend. Demonstrations are planned at the following locations:
Athens: Syntagma Square from 19:00.
Heraklion: Eleftheriou Venizelou Square from 12:00.
Patras: Olgas Square from 19:00.
Thessaloniki: Intersection of Dimitriou Gounari and Tsimiski from 19:00.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest sites. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or ideologically opposed individuals cannot be ruled out.
Avoid all protest areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near any protest sites. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at teh first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
