Greece: Anti-fascist activists to stage rallies in Athens, Sept. 26-27
Anti-fascist activists to stage rallies in Athens, Greece, Sept. 26-27. Increased security, localized transport disruptions likely.
Several anti-fascist activist groups plan to stage rallies in Athens Sept. 26-27 in solidarity with an activist arrested in connection with a violent protest in October 2020. Participants will denounce alleged state repression and judicial corruption. On Sept 26, activists will rally at the Propylaea at 18:30. On Sept. 27, activists will gather on Evelpidon Street at 09:00. The timing of the Sept. 27 protest coincides with the scheduled trial of the arrested activist; accordingly, participants may march to the Athens courthouse, though this remains unclear. Several hundred activists will likely attend each event.
Authorities will likely deploy additional police to monitor the rallies as a precaution. Localized traffic disruptions are likely. Low-level clashes between protesters and police are possible.
Avoid the protest locations as a precaution. Heed the instructions of local authorities. Allow extra time to reach destinations in the affected areas; leave the area at the first sign of any security incident.
