Kenya: Aviation personnel conducting indefinite strike at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta Airport from early Sept. 11

Aviation workers striking indefinitely at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta Airport, Kenya, as of early Sept. 11. Airport, flight disruptions likely.

Warning

Employees of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) affiliated with the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) are conducting an indefinite strike at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta Airport (NBO) as of early Sept. 11. The purpose of the action is to condemn a proposed government deal with Indian company Adani Airport Holdings for the expansion of NBO. It remains unclear how long the work stoppage may last; airport workers began the walkout at 00:01 Sept. 11.

Flight disruptions are likely at NBO for the duration of the work stoppage. Striking workers could also stage picket protests near the entrances of the facility; heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near any demonstrations.

Reconfirm planned air travel during the strike period. Do not check out of accommodations before onward travel is confirmed. Allow additional time for air travel during the strike period. Avoid all protests as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near demonstrations.
