Kenya: Aviation personnel conducting strike and protest at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta Airport and other facilities on Sept. 11 /update 1
Aviation workers strike and protest at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta Airport and other Kenyan airports, on Sept. 11.
Employees of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) affiliated with the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) are conducting a strike and protests at some airports on Sept. 11. Affected facilities include Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta Airport (NBO), Moi International Airport (MBA), Kisumu International Airport (KIS), and Eldoret International Airport (EDL). Other airports may be impacted in the coming hours or days. Airport workers in NBO initially began the walkout at 00:01 on Sept. 11 to condemn a proposed government deal with Indian company Adani Airport Holdings for the expansion of NBO. It remains unclear how long the work stoppage may last.
Flight disruptions are likely at airports for the duration of the work stoppage. If striking workers block roads, access to and from airport facilities may be obstructed. Clashes are likely if police forces attempt to disperse the crowd and clear access to airports.
Reconfirm planned air travel for the coming days. Do not check out of accommodations before onward travel is confirmed. Allow additional extra time to reach airports. Do not attempt to navigate any roadblocks. Heed instructions from security services.
