Kenya: Aviation personnel plan indefinite strike at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta Airport from Sept. 3
Aviation workers plan indefinite strike at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta Airport, Kenya, from Sept. 3. Airport, flight disruptions likely.
Employees of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) affiliated with the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) plan to conduct an indefinite strike at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta Airport (NBO) from Sept 3. The action is against a proposed government deal with Indian company Adani Airport Holdings for the expansion of NBO. The exact duration of the labor action is unclear. Early on Sept. 2., participating workers staged a protest march at NBO.
If not prevented, the strike will likely cause flight disruptions at NBO for the duration of the work stoppage. Further picket protests are likely at NBO; heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near any demonstrations.
Reconfirm planned air travel during the strike period. Do not check out of accommodations before onward travel is confirmed. Allow additional time for air travel during the strike period. Avoid all protests as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near demonstrations.
