Lebanon: Explosions reportedly kill three and injure over 100 other people in several locations, Sept. 18 /update 2

Explosions reportedly target dozens of Lebanese Hizballah (LH) personnel in several locations across Lebanon Sept. 18.

Critical

Wireless communication devices belonging to Lebanese Hizballah (LH) militants detonated, killing at least three and wounding over 100 people, in several areas of Lebanon on Sept. 18. Explosions reportedly occurred throughout Beirut but particularly in the LH stronghold of Dahieh, areas near the border with Israel, Tyre, and Beqaa Governorate. Some of the explosive devices resulted in minor blazes in residential buildings in Beirut. There are allegations that explosive devices were implanted into personal communication devices belonging to LH by Israel; Israel has neither confirmed nor denied the allegations. Casualty figures will likely rise over the coming hours.

Local authorities are expected to carry out security operations in the affected areas, which may include measures like checkpoints and vehicle inspections, potentially leading to localized transportation disruptions.

Avoid the impacted areas until authorities give the all-clear. Seek alternative routes and allow additional travel time to nearby destinations. Heed instructions from authorities. In light of recent regional tensions, consider avoiding nonessential travel to Lebanon, particularly the border region shared with Israel, until the situation stabilizes. Consider departing Lebanon via commercial means while these are available. Note that commercial options in Lebanon may become increasingly limited if the security environment deteriorates.

A series of explosions targeting wireless communication devices (pagers) occurred across Lebanon Sept. 17. The explosions on Sept. 17 wounded over 3,000 and killed at least 12 others.
