Portugal: Unionized school personnel plan nationwide strike Oct. 4
Unionized school operational staff plan to strike across Portugal Oct. 4. Business disruptions, localized heightened security likely.
Unionized operational staff employed at schools plan to strike nationwide in Portugal Oct. 4. The purpose of the labor action is to denounce alleged understaffing and to demand increased salaries. Participants will stage a protest at the Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation on Avenida Infante Santo in Lisbon from 15:00. It was not immediately clear how many participants may attend.
Business disruptions are likely nationwide as parents stay home to look after their children. Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely the central protest site, as well as any picket protests that take shape.
Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution. Plan accordingly for increased absenteeism on the day of the strike among employees or are the parents or guardians of school-aged children; consider allowing a liberal telecommuting policy, if possible.
