A magnitude-5.3 earthquake occurred in the Solomon Islands' Temotu Province at around 06:09 Sept. 5. The epicenter was approximately 11 km (7 miles) east-southeast of Lata. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 99 km (62 miles), and weak shaking was probably felt in parts of the northern Santa Cruz Islands region.
