Workers to protest in Tunis, Tunisia, Sept. 26 and strike nationwide Sept. 28.

Informational

Unionized retail outlet workers plan to continue protesting and strike nationwide in Tunisia on Sept. 28 following disagreements with the Tunisian Union of Industry, Commerce and Handicrafts (UTICA). Protests were initially slated for early Sept. 25 outside the Ministry of Social Affairs in Tunis. Additional protests are planned outside UTICA's headquarters in Tunis from 09:00 Sept. 26. Organizers have announced a general strike on Sept. 28; associated protests are possible near the Ministry of Social Affairs and UTICA's headquarters in Tunis during the strike. The purpose of the action is to demand higher wages and better working conditions.

Increased security and localized transport disruptions are likely near protest areas. Clashes between police and protesters are possible, particularly if participants are overly disruptive or ignore police orders to disperse. Business disruptions are likely for the strike's duration.

Avoid all protests due to the potential for clashes. Avoid all demonstrations that may materialize on Sept. 28. Heed the advice of security personnel. Allow additional time if traveling through the affected areas.
