Warning

Emergency crews are responding to an industrial fire on Church Manorway in Erith, southeast London, as of Sept. 17. Authorities have closed several surrounding roads, including the A2016 (Bronze Age Way), Mulberry Way, and Lower Road, and evacuated surrounding buildings. Around 100 firefighters are reportedly responding to the blaze, which began on Sept. 16; the London Fire Brigade states firefighting operations may extend through the day and into Sept. 18. The fire reportedly spread from a conveyor belt at a processing facility. There have been no reported casualties.

Authorities will almost certainly maintain a heightened security presence in the affected area until the fire has been completely extinguished. Road closures will likely remain in effect in the coming hours. Transport and business disruptions are likely near the incident site until authorities complete their operations. Authorities have diverted several bus routes.

Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Seek alternative routes and allow additional time for travel near the scene of the fire. Follow all instructions from security personnel, including any evacuation orders. Consider remaining indoors to avoid smoke exposure, especially if you suffer from a respiratory illness such as asthma or conditions that lead to increased risk from smoke exposure. Eye irritation is possible; flush irritated eyes with copious amounts of clean water.
