Authorities will almost certainly maintain tight security posture near the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, over the coming days following a security incident on Sept. 15. According to authorities, Secret Service agents fired on an armed individual spotted near the facility at approximately 13:30 while former President Donald Trump was at the fifth hole playing golf. Authorities have recovered an AK-47-style rifle from the scene; the suspect, who initially fled in his vehicle, was subsequently apprehended. Although multiple gunshots were reported, it remains unclear if any were fired by the suspects. There were no injuries during the incident and authorities confirm the former president is safe. While investigators are remaining guarded concerning details of the incident, officials from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have referred to it as a potential assassination attempt.
Officers and agents from the FBI, the West Palm Beach Sheriff's Office, and the Secret Service are at the scene investigating the incident. Authorities have advised the public to avoid the area. Officials have as yet provided no further details concerning the identity of the suspect or nature of the incident.
Localized transport and business disruptions are also likely near the golf course. Authorities could also increase security at the nearby Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) out of an abundance of caution.
Avoid the incident site until authorities issue an all-clear. Allow additional travel time near the impacted area into at least Sept. 16. If traveling via PBI, arrive at the airport early in the event of heightened security at the facility. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
