Heightened security, transport disruptions, and multiple protests are expected in New York, N.Y., Sept. 22-30 due to the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly and related events.
Authorities will deploy additional security and close roads, particularly from 42nd to 63rd streets and between FDR Drive and Seventh Avenue, as dozens of heads of state and government leaders are scheduled to attend the meetings. Most events will occur at the United Nations Headquarters, located on First Avenue between 42nd and 49th streets in the Midtown area of Manhattan.
Additionally, multiple protests are likely to occur throughout the event; some may be disruptive, and low-level clashes between protesters and police are possible. Pro-Palestine activists will likely hold the largest demonstration on Sept. 26, starting at 15:00, between Bryant Park and the UN headquarters. Significant disruptions are anticipated in the area through Sept. 30.
Avoid the impacted area if possible. Heed instructions from authorities. Plan for delays and alternative routes if operating in Midtown Manhattan, New York, Sept. 22-30.
The "High-Level Week" will begin with a Summit of the Future, Sept. 22-23, followed by the General Debate, Sept. 24-28 and Sept. 30. There will also be high-level meetings on several specific topics, including sea-level rise and nuclear weapons.
