Belgium: EU institutions to host international leaders amid tight security in Brussels, Oct. 16-18
EU institutions will host international leaders in Brussels, Belgium, Oct. 16-18. Increased security measures to prompt disruptions.
The EU Council will host a summit of the leaders of its member states at the European Council building in Brussels Oct. 16-18. Heads of state from the Gulf Cooperation Council will also attend Oct. 16, as will leaders of EU membership candidate countries and senior figures from multinational organizations, including the UN. Local authorities announced heightened security measures in the city to facilitate the summit. Security forces will implement a safety zone around EU institutions in central Brussels and restrict access to personnel with a special pass and identity card. Traffic, vehicle parking, and business deliveries will be restricted in certain zones. Public transport will be disrupted, as bus lines will be diverted.
