Protesters cause traffic disruptions near Usme in south Bogota, Colombia, Oct. 16. Heightened security, business disruptions likely.

Demonstrators gathered in the Usme area in south Bogota on Oct. 16 and are blocking the intersection of Carrera 1C and Calle 137 Sur. The protest is also disrupting at least 12 Transmilenio bus services in the area. The protesters are reportedly denouncing insecurity and demanding improvements to road infrastructure in the area.

Heightened security, further transport, and business disruptions are likely in the area into the late afternoon of Oct. 16. Protesters may also gather across other locations in Bogota. Clashes between demonstrators and police cannot be ruled out.
