Authorities are responding to a major structure fire in the Shema Tera neighborhood of Merkato, Addis Ababa, as of the evening of Oct. 21. The cause of the fire is unclear. There have as yet been no reports of casualties.
A heightened security presence will likely continue in the affected area over the coming hours. Localized transport and business disruptions are probable. Heavy smoke from the fire may worsen the surrounding area's air quality. Evacuations are possible.
