Fiji: Water conservation measures likely to remain in effect in Levuka area through at least late October

Officials impose water conservation measures in Levuka, Fiji, as of Oct. 11, allowing residents to access running water 05:00-19:00 daily.

Informational

Authorities will likely maintain water restrictions in the Levuka area through at least late October after prevailing dry weather conditions prompted officials to limit residents' access to running water on Oct. 11. Running water will only be available to individuals in Levuka 05:00-19:00 daily until the Totogo Water Dam is replenished to safe levels. The Water Authority of Fiji has reported that affected areas include Bath Road, Kalaba, Convent Road, Delana, LPSS Hostel, Nadevo Village, Nadugu Settlement, Nakalavo, Totogo Lane, and Veiuto. Officials have urged residents in the abovementioned areas to conserve water. Other nearby areas may also experience water shortages or low water pressure.

Business and public service disruptions are possible, especially for entities that rely on large quantities of municipal water. While residents typically depend on private water suppliers during outages, ongoing fuel shortages could limit the availability of alternative water supplies.

Consider securing alternative water supplies for business and other time-sensitive operations. Pressure and water quality may be poor after service resumes; run taps for several minutes before using water. Use only bottled water from reputable suppliers for drinking and hygienic purposes.
