France: Environmental activists to protest in Lerm-et-Musset, south-east of Bordeaux, Oct. 11-13
Environmental activists to protest in Lerm-et-Musset, south-east of Bordeaux, France, Oct. 11-13. Heightened security, likely disruptions.
Environmental activists plan to protest in Lerm-et-Musset, through the weekend Oct. 11-13. Campaign groups led by Soulevements de la Terre (Earth Uprisings) will denounce a planned high-speed rail link from Bordeaux to Toulouse. Local authorities have obtained a legal order to ban the protests, and have deployed additional police and increased security measures to the area. Campaign groups have previously ignored such orders, and activists may provoke confrontations and scuffles with police. It is likely that several hundred to low thousands will take part in the events. Lerm-et-Musset is around 80 km (50 miles) south-east of Bordeaux.
Authorities will likely deploy heightened security to the protest events throughout the weekend Oct. 11-13. Road closures and security measures will likely prompt transport and business disruptions. Confrontations between activists and police officers are likely.
Avoid demonstrations as a routine security precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations in the region. Heed official directives. Leave the area immediately in the event of violence.
