Unionized transport workers striking at ports and airports across Corsica, France, Oct. 4. Travel, business disruptions reported.
Unionized transport workers are striking at ports and airports across Corsica, Oct. 4. Members of the STC (Corsican workers' union) started the impromptu industrial action Oct. 3 over the management of the island's infrastructure. As of Oct. 4, Corsica's four airports Ajaccio (AJA), Bastia (BIA), Calvi (CLY), and Figari (FSC) remain closed. The six maritime ports, Ajaccio, Bastia, Bonifacio, L'Ile-Rousse, Porto-Vecchio, and Propriano are also blocked by strike action. It is not known how long the work stoppage will last.
Severe travel disruptions are ongoing to and from Corsica. Air travel, airport operation, and passenger processing delays will likely continue throughout the strike. Maritime passenger and logistic operations will also likely remain severely disrupted. The extent of the industrial action will likely prompt lingering disruptions for several days. Striking workers may form pickets or protest in urban centers. Heightened security is likely across Corsica.
Reconfirm all air and maritime travel arrangements, to and from Corsica. Expect significant delays and disruptions in coming days. Avoid all protests as a standard precaution. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
