Protesters plan to gather in Cayenne, French Guiana, from 17:00 on Oct. 18. Heightened security, transport disruptions likely.

Informational

Activists plan to stage a protest in Cayenne on Oct. 18. Participants plan to gather outside the fire station on Nelson Madiba Mandela Avenue from 17:00 to denounce perceived high levels of insecurity in French Guiana, among other issues. The gathering will also support recent demonstrations in other French overseas territories.

The protest will likely cause commercial and transport disruptions in the impacted area. Police will almost certainly deploy to monitor the protest; although violence is unlikely, it cannot be discounted if protesters become overly disruptive.

As a precaution, avoid the demonstration. Allow extra time to reach destinations near the protest on Oct. 18. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
