Authorities in central Tokyo are continuing their response to two attempted attacks as of early Oct. 19. According to police, at about 06:00, an unidentified individual threw a Molotov cocktail at the headquarters of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in the city's Nagatacho District before attempting to ram his vehicle into the Office of the Prime Minister less than 1 km (0.6 miles) to the south. There have been no reports of casualties at either location; authorities have taken the suspect into custody. The suspect's motives remain unclear.

Authorities will almost certainly maintain an extremely high security posture near government buildings and political party offices throughout Tokyo until they complete their investigation and determine no further attacks are imminent.

Exercise caution if traveling near government buildings or political party headquarters in Tokyo through at least Oct. 21. Allow extra time to reach nearby destinations. Strictly heed the instructions of local authorities. Remain courteous and cooperative if approached and questioned by law enforcement officers.
