Rail delays are occurring along the Coastal and Main lines after a passenger train derailed between the Colombo Fort and Maradana railway stations in Western Province the morning of Oct. 15. The incident did not result in any casualties. The Coastal Line is also experiencing delays due to a train engine fire near Kalutara South Railway Station.
Rail disruptions will likely continue until clearance and repair operations conclude. Localized traffic disruptions are possible; authorities could close roads around the accident site in the coming hours to facilitate recovery operations.
