UK: Political activists to stage protest in London, Oct. 17

Political activists to rally at the BBC headquarters in London at 16:00 Oct. 17, and potentially across the UK Oct. 18. Heightened security.

Informational

Political activists affiliated with the UK branch of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party plan to protest at the BBC headquarters on Portland Place, London, from 16:00 Oct. 17. The group will show support for the imprisoned party leader and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, following well-attended protests in London and Manchester Oct. 15. It is possible that several hundred will take part.

Campaigners also call for further demonstrations nationwide, Oct. 18. Activists will potentially gather at Pakistan-affiliated locations such as the Consulate General in Manchester and the High Commission in London. Related demonstrations of varying types, including marches, could occur near prominent government buildings, public squares, and thoroughfares in both cities. Larger gatherings are likely to draw hundreds of participants.

Authorities will probably monitor any such gatherings as a precaution. Isolated skirmishes between activists and police cannot be ruled out. Associated localized transport and business disruptions are possible.

Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Plan accordingly for possible localized transport and business disruptions. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
