US: Authorities continue to contain wildfire in Chelan County, Washington, as of late Oct. 13

Wildfire response continues in Chelan County, Washington, US, as of late Oct. 13. Evacuations ongoing.

Warning

Crews continue working to contain a wildfire burning in parts of Chelan County, Washington, as of late Oct. 13. The Squilchuck Road Fire broke out the afternoon of Oct. 13 on the 3200 block of Squilchuck Road. The fire has burned around 10 hectares (25 acres) and is 0 percent contained. Authorities have issued evacuation orders for residents in the west end of Connery Road and the north end of Jim Smith Road in Wenatchee Heights. Evacuation warnings are in place for the 3200 block of Squilchuck Road. Squilchuck Road is now closed to through traffic at Methow Street.

Depending on the progression of the wildfires, the status of nearby roads could change over the coming hours and days. Authorities will likely close additional routes within the wildfire complex and evacuate more communities depending on fire activity and the needs of response operators. Residents' return will probably disrupt traffic flows after authorities lift evacuation orders. Power outages are probable in affected areas. Low visibility from smoke and possible ashfall could contribute to traffic delays and congestion in the region.

Heed all evacuation orders. Seek updated information on road conditions if driving in the affected area; road closures and detours will cause increased congestion and delays. Collect essential items - including identification and any important legal and travel documents - in an easily accessible "go-bag." Charge battery-powered devices in the case of prolonged power outages.

Individuals not under evacuation warnings should consider remaining inside well-ventilated, air-conditioned spaces to reduce exposure to smoke. Individuals with chronic respiratory illnesses may be more susceptible to the negative effects of smoke inhalation. Eye irritation is possible; flush irritated eyes with copious amounts of clean water.
