US: Authorities continue to contain wildfire in San Diego County, Calif., as of late Oct. 7

Wildfire response continues in San Diego County, Calif., US, as of late Oct. 7. Evacuations orders in place.

Warning

Crews continue working to contain the Posta 3 Fire burning in parts of San Diego County, California, as of late Oct. 7. The Posta 3 Fire broke out the afternoon of Oct. 7 near Old Highway 80 and La Posta Road in Campo. The fire has burned around 142 hectares (350 acres) and is 10 percent contained.

Authorities have issued evacuation orders for zones SDC-2169-B, SDC-2240, and SDC-2327-B. Evacuation warnings are in effect for the surrounding areas. Officials have established an evacuation shelter at Golden Acorn Casino in Campo. Several road closures are in effect in the area, including parts of Old Highway 80. Full details on the locations of evacuation orders and road closures can be found here. The fire has resulted in at least two injuries.

Depending on the progression of the wildfires, the status of nearby roads could change over the coming hours and days. Authorities may close additional routes within the wildfire complex and evacuate more communities depending on fire activity and the needs of response operators. Residents' return will probably disrupt traffic flows after authorities lift evacuation orders. Power outages are likely in affected areas. Low visibility from smoke and possible ashfall will likely contribute to traffic delays and congestion in the region.

Heed all evacuation orders. Seek updated information on road conditions if driving in the affected area; road closures and detours will cause increased congestion and delays. Collect essential items - including identification and any important legal and travel documents - in an easily accessible "go-bag." Charge battery-powered devices in the case of prolonged power outages.

Individuals not under evacuation warnings should consider remaining inside well-ventilated, air-conditioned spaces to reduce exposure to smoke. Individuals with chronic respiratory illnesses may be more susceptible to the negative effects of smoke inhalation. Eye irritation is possible; flush irritated eyes with copious amounts of clean water.
