El Salvador: Activists to stage protest march in San Salvador Nov. 23

Activists affiliated with the Movement for the Defense of the Rights of the Working Class (Movimiento por la Defensa de los Derechos de la Clase Trabajadora, MDCT) plan to gather for a protest march at Plaza Salvador del Mundo in San Salvador on Nov. 23. The march will reportedly begin at 08:00 and proceed through downtown areas of the capital. The primary purpose of the demonstration is to demand that recently fired public-sector workers be reinstated to their positions; protest organizers allege that such workers were dismissed due to their participation in a previous demonstration. A few thousand people will likely participate in the protest march.

Heightened security and transport disruptions will likely affect areas subject to protest activity. Business disruptions are also possible. Authorities may close local roads on short notice to facilitate the demonstration. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.
