Authorities will likely maintain heightened security measures in Rillieux-la-Pape, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes Region, over the coming days after civil unrest and associated arson attacks were reported in the municipality late Oct. 31 and late Nov. 1. Groups of young people reportedly set fire to vehicles and trash cans in the area late Oct. 31; police accordingly arrested four minors. Late Nov. 1, some 20 people lit at least two public buses on fire in the Velette district of the municipality, prompting the evacuations of some nearby residents. Police officers deployed to the scene, after which the suspects threw objects at the officers, injuring at least one. Authorities have since brought the fires under control.
Localized transport and business disruptions will probably affect areas subject to increased security measures. Authorities may implement curfew measures or road closures on short notice. Further arson attacks, arrests, and clashes between the perpetrators of such acts and police cannot be ruled out.
