Georgia: Activists to protest in Liberty Square-Pushkin Park area of Tbilisi Nov. 11
Activists to stage protest in Liberty Square-Pushkin Park area of Tbilisi, Georgia, from 19:00 Nov. 11; heightened security presence likely.
The Caucasus Feminist Anti-War Movement and environmental activist Greta Thunberg are calling for a protest in the Liberty Square-Pushkin Park area of Tbilisi beginning at 19:00 Nov. 11. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce the holding of the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov. 11-22. The number of people who will participate in the demonstration was not immediately clear.
Authorities will probably deploy a heightened security presence to the protest area to monitor the demonstration. Officials may close roads near Liberty Square and Pushkin Park on short notice. Transport disruptions are likely in areas subject to protest activity and increased security, and localized business disruptions are also possible. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out, especially if the demonstrators are disruptive or fail to heed any orders from security forces to disperse.
Avoid the protest as a precaution. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent the area of the demonstration and any related disruptions. Allow extra time for travel if operating in Tbilisi. Adhere to all instructions issued by local officials.
