Protests planned in multiple locations in Latin America on Nov. 25 to commemorate the day for the elimination of violence against women.
Activists plan to gather and march in multiple locations throughout Latin America on Nov. 25, to commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Some of the largest demonstrations are likely to be in the following locations:
Argentina
Buenos Aires: March from Avenida de Mayo and Avenida 9 de Julio to Plaza de Mayo, 16:30.
Cordoba: Intersection of Colon and Figueroa Alcorta, 18:00.
Rosario: March from Plaza 25 de Mayo to Plaza San Martin, 16:00.
Chile
Antofagasta: Intersection of Arturo Prat and Manuel Matta, 18:00.
Concepcion: Justice Palace, 18:30.
Santiago: Outside Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center (GAM), 18:30.
Valparaiso: Plaza Victoria, 18:00.
Colombia
Bogota: Attorney General's Office, 15:00.
Cali: Outside the Regional Government's Offices, 14:00.
Medellin: Parque de las Luces, 14:00.
Cartagena: Outside San Lazaro Mall, 13:00.
Others
San Jose, Costa Rica: March from Parque Nacional to Legislative Assembly, 17:00.
Guayaquil, Ecuador: March from Parque Centenario to Plaza San Francisco, 16:00.
Quito, Ecuador: Social Security Institute, 16:00.
Asuncion, Paraguay: March from Plaza Uruguaya to Plaza de la Democracia, 17:30.
Montevideo, Uruguay: March from Plaza Libertad to Universidad de la Republica, 18:00; and March from Plaza Independencia to Montevideo City Hall, 18:30.
Some of the largest demonstrations are likely to draw thousands of participants, while most will attract hundreds of people. Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely in all protests. Additional rallies in other cities are possible. Low-level confrontations between protesters and police cannot be ruled out in some of the largest demonstrations.
Plan for delays and alternative routes if operating in major cities in the region on the afternoon and evening of Nov. 25. Heed instructions from authorities.
