Pakistan: US diplomatic officials issue security warning for Peshawar through Dec. 16

US Mission to Pakistan issues security warning advising against travel to Serena Hotel, Peshawar, through Dec. 16; militant attack possible.

Warning

The US Mission to Pakistan issued a security warning on Nov. 27 advising against travel to the Serena Hotel in Peshawar through Dec. 16. The advisory recommends that US citizens avoid the hotel, exercise increased caution in the vicinity, and review their personal security plans.

Militants may attempt to carry out one or more attacks in the vicinity of the Serena Hotel. Increased security measures will probably be implemented in Peshawar over the coming days. Local authorities will likely establish checkpoints and conduct random vehicle searches near sensitive locations. Localized business and transport disruptions could occur in areas with a heavy security presence.

Exercise heightened vigilance if operating in Peshawar, particularly in public places frequented by foreign nationals. Avoid the Serena Hotel and other such places as well as crowded areas through at least Dec. 16. Heed the instructions of local authorities; remain courteous and cooperative if approached and questioned by security personnel. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation while operating in the country.
