Spain: Groups to demonstrate in Madrid in coming days and in Valencia, Nov. 9
Groups to demonstrate in Madrid, Spain, in coming days and in Valencia, Nov. 9. Heightened security, disruptions likely.
Civil society groups and labor unions plan to demonstrate in Madrid in coming days and Valencia, Nov. 9. Campaigners are denouncing the local, regional, and national governments for their preparedness for, and response to, the recent floods in Valencia. In recent days, hundreds of protestors have gathered daily at the ruling party PSOE headquarters in Madrid; these demonstrations will likely continue in coming days. In Valencia, multiple civil society groups plan to march on Nov. 9 from Plaza del Ayuntamiento to the Palau de la Generalitat; it is possible that thousands will take part.
Separately, local authorities have banned protests in cities nationwide on Nov. 10 and Nov. 15, allegedly proposed by right-wing groups. As of Nov. 6, it is not known whether these events will go ahead.
Officials will likely deploy increased security to all demonstrations. Additional security measures, road closures, likely congestion may prompt localized transport disruptions. Scuffles between protesters and police are possible.
Avoid all demonstrations as a routine precaution. Consider seeking alternative routes to circumvent the impacted areas. Heed all instructions from local authorities.
