Emergency crews are continuing their response to a large explosion that occurred at a business at 1901 Payne Street in the Clifton area of Louisville, Kentucky, the afternoon of Nov. 12. Authorities have lifted a shelter-in-place order that had previously been in effect for a 1.6 km (1 mile) radius from the explosion; however, evacuation orders are in force for persons within a 3.2 km (2 mile) radius of the incident. At least 11 people have reportedly been injured in the blast, although there have as yet been no reports of fatalities. Multiple businesses and homes in the vicinity suffered damage from the explosion. The cause of the blast remains unclear.

Authorities are monitoring the air quality in the area due to the possibility of a hazardous materials release; however, preliminary results indicate no leaks have taken place. Multiple roads in the area remain closed, and business and transport disruptions are likely through at least late Nov. 12 due to the large emergency response and ongoing investigation.

Avoid the area and strictly heed orders from authorities. If operating in the Clifton area of Louisville on Nov. 12, consider alternative driving routes and allow extra time to reach nearby destinations.
