US: Flight disruptions ongoing at airports in Chicago, IL., as of afternoon Nov. 21 due to severe weather
Delays ongoing at Chicago O'Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport, Chicago, IL, US, Nov. 21 due to adverse weather.
Flight disruptions, including delays and cancellations, will likely continue to affect airports in Chicago, Illinois, into at least late Nov. 21. Severe weather conditions, including snow and ice, have prompted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to issue ground delay programs for airports in the region, including Chicago Midway International (MDW). FAA officials have lifted a previously issued ground delay program at O'Hare International Airport (ORD), but significant delays are still being reported. As of around 14:30 Nov. 21, the following ground delays are in effect:
Chicago Midway International (MDW): Ground delay scheduled to remain in effect through at least 23:59 Nov. 21.
Additionally, as of around 14:30 Nov. 21, some flight departures to ORD were reportedly delayed by an average of 46 minutes, departure delays averaged 75 minutes, and flights to MDW by an average of 108 minutes. The FAA may modify or rescind the abovementioned air traffic control programs on short notice.
Residual disruptions are likely even after weather conditions improve as airlines work to clear passenger backlogs.
Confirm flight schedules if booked to travel via ORD or MDW through at least the early morning of Nov. 22; do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
