Australia: Major train service disruptions reported in Melbourne Dec. 3

Significant rail disruptions are ongoing across Melbourne's train network due to a signal fault at Flinders Street Station as of the afternoon of Dec. 3. Sandringham Line trains are suspended between Flinders Street Station and Elsternwick stations; officials are advising impacted passengers to take tram services between Elsternwick and South Yarra stations. Limited replacement buses are also available for affected commuters. All other train services are facing delays; trains may also cancel skip stations at short notice. Officials have not provided a timeline for the resumption of normal services.

Lingering disruptions, including delays and cancellations, will probably continue when services resume. Increased congestion and increased demand are likely on alternative forms of transport.
