Australia: Unionized Qantas Airways engineers striking at major airports nationwide 03:30 Dec. 13-07:30 Dec. 14
Unionized Qantas engineers striking at major airports across Australia 03:30 Dec. 13-07:30 Dec. 14. Flight disruptions possible.
Members of the Qantas Engineers' Alliance (QEA) are planning to strike in multiple cities across Australia 03:30 Dec. 13-07:30 Dec. 14 over a wage dispute. The work stoppage could affect Qantas (QF) flights at Adelaide Airport (ADL), Brisbane Airport (BNE), Hobart Airport (HBA), Melbourne Airport (MEL), Perth Airport (PER), and Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD). QF officials assert that the industrial action would not lead to flight disruptions; nevertheless, delays and cancellations cannot be ruled out. Although organizers have not announced protest plans, participating workers could stage rallies at affected airports; dozens of activists could join each gathering. The union is also threatening further strike action Dec. 20.
Officials may deploy additional security to any demonstrations that may materialize. Violence is not likely. Lingering disruptions are possible after any flight cancellation due to increased passenger traffic.
Reconfirm flight reservations if booked to travel on Qantas (QF) Dec. 13-14. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Heed all official transport and security advisories. Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution.
