Canada: Dozens of flight delays reported at Toronto Pearson International Airport amid ground stop issued Dec. 18 due to disabled aircraft on runway
Disabled aircraft on runway prompts ground stop at Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada, Dec. 18; dozens of flight delays reported.
Flight disruptions will likely affect Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) over the coming hours after the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced a ground stop at the facility on Dec. 18 due to disabled aircraft on the runway. The ground stop is slated to remain in effect until at least 19:00. Authorities may extend or rescind the ground stop or issue additional air traffic control measures for YYZ on short notice.
As of around 18:20, YYZ was reporting that dozens of flights scheduled to arrive at or depart from the airport late Dec. 18 were delayed; several others were canceled. Residual flight disruptions, including delays and cancellations, may persist even after crews remove the disabled aircraft as airlines work to clear any passenger backlogs that have materialized.
Confirm flight reservations if scheduled to travel via YYZ. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
