France: Unionized port workers to strike nationwide Dec. 9-10.
Port workers to stage industrial action throughout France Dec. 9-10. Further strikes scheduled in January.
Port workers associated with the General Confederation of Labour (Confederation Generale du Travail, CGT) union are to stage a 48-hour strike Dec. 9-10 amid an ongoing dispute over pension reform negotiations. A related series of strikes in May-June 2024 resulted in disruptions to the ports of Marseille, Saint Nazaire, Le Havre, Rouen, Nantes, Bordeaux, and Cherbourg, where ferry services to the UK were also interrupted. Ports in French overseas territories may also be affected. Demonstrations at or in close proximity to ports are likely. Further strikes are expected to take place on January 7, 9, 13, 15, and 17.
Unless averted, disruptions to port services and maritime transportation are likely Dec. 9-10, with residual disruption possible in the following days. Heightened security is likely at affected ports and near any related protest area. Localized transport and road travel disruptions are likely in the vicinity of demonstration sites. Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.
Confirm deliveries and plan for potential shipping delays during the work stoppage. Consider alternative shipping methods for time-sensitive cargo. As a standard precaution, avoid any related demonstrations.
