Unionized automotive workers likely to demonstrate in multiple centers across Germany Dec. 2. Localized disruptions likely.

Informational

Unionized automotive workers will likely demonstrate in multiple centers Dec. 2. The IG Metall labor union has called for industrial action at 10 Volkswagen manufacturing centers across Germany to demand improved pay and job security. Striking workers will probably form pickets and may stage demonstrations in nearby town centers. The following plants will likely be affected: Braunschweig, Chemnitz, Dresden, Emden, Hanover, Kassel-Baunatal, Salzgitter, Wolfsburg, and Zwickau. It is possible that several hundred to low thousands of striking workers will take part in pickets and demonstrations. Further industrial action and protest activity are possible in coming days.

Authorities will likely deploy police resources to areas affected by pickets and demonstrations to mitigate any disruptions. Increased security, congestion, and possible road closures will likely prompt localized transport and business disruptions. The protests will likely pass off peacefully.

Avoid any pickets and demonstration that do materialize, as a standard precaution. Heed the instructions of local authorities. Allow extra time to reach destinations in the affected centers.
