Informational

Adverse weather conditions are impacting multiple locations across Iran as of Dec. 15. Media reports suggest that winter weather conditions in the north of the country and sandstorms in the south have led officials in at least 18 provinces to suspend school and state operations Dec. 15 and/or Dec. 16. In the north of the country, officials in Golestan Province announced school and office closures Dec. 16. The province has been adversely impacted by winter weather in recent days leading to road closures and power outages. Flights to and from Tehran and Mashhad have also been impacted. In the south, sandstorms have reduced air quality considerably and resulted in flight disruptions in Kerman Province. Similar disruptions have been reported in the Khuzestan and Bushehr provinces.

Additional adverse weather-related disruptions are possible in the coming weeks which could lead officials to suspend operations in various sectors, including transport and education.
