Italy: Private and ride-share drivers to protest, strike nationwide Dec. 12-13

NCC and ride-sharing drivers to protest, strike across Italy Dec. 12-13. Heightened security, transport disruptions likely.

Informational

Unionized private drivers (known locally as noleggio con conducente or NCC) and ride-share drivers plan to protest and strike across Italy Dec. 12-13. The purpose of the demonstrations is to denounce proposed legislative changes to regulations related to NCC and ride-sharing drivers. Drivers plan to hold the following protests on Dec. 12:

  • Bari: Protest on Piazza Liberta at 10:00.

  • Cagliari: Protest on Viale Trento at 10:00.

  • Catanzaro: Protest on Corso Giuseppe Mazzini at 10:00.

  • Florence: Protest on Piazza Duomo at 10:00.

  • Milan: Procession on Viale Federico Caprilli at 10:00.

  • Palermo: Protest on Via Cavour at 10:00.

  • Rome: Protest on Piazza Caparnica from 15:00.

  • Trieste: Protest on Piazza Guglielmo Oberdan at 10:00.

  • Turin: Protest on Via Nizza at 10:00.

  • Venice: Procession on Via Forte Marghera at 10:00.

Additionally, demonstrators will conduct a procession near Gianturco Centro Direzionale in Naples from 10:00 Dec. 13.

Law enforcement officers will likely deploy near all protest sites. Driver processions and the presence of pedestrian protesters will likely disrupt vehicular traffic. NCC and ride-share service disruptions are likely nationwide Dec. 12 and in Naples Dec. 13. Additional demonstrations are possible nationwide. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers, frustrated drivers, or other opposed individuals cannot be ruled out.

Avoid all protest areas as a standard precaution. Consider alternative means of transport during the strike period. Allow additional time if traveling near any protest areas. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
