Libya: Demonstrations likely in Tripoli through at least late December following protest activity in capital Dec. 22

Protests likely in Tripoli, Libya, through at least late December after demonstrators rally in capital Dec. 22; increased security likely.

Informational

Additional protests will likely occur in Tripoli through at least late December after employees from multiple sectors staged demonstrations in the capital on Dec. 22. Dozens of workers affiliated with the Arab Union Contracting Company reportedly gathered in front of Tripoli Tower to denounce a conflict involving the company's board of directors. Also, unconfirmed reports indicate that dozens of university professors staged a demonstration in front of the Ministry of Planning to demand that officials authorize them to study abroad. Likely locations for further protest activity include company offices, government buildings, prominent landmarks, and public squares.

Increased security and localized transport disruptions will likely affect the vicinities of any additional demonstrations. Clashes between police and protesters are possible, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or ignore any orders from police to disperse.

Avoid all protests due to the potential for clashes. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent the vicinities of demonstrations and any related disruptions. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
