Nigeria: Nationwide protests planned over arrest of human rights lawyer on Dec. 10

The Take It Back Movement civil society group has called for a nationwide protest on Dec. 10 to demand the release of a human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi, arrested earlier this week. He was arrested in Lagos and transferred to Ekiti. While organizers have announced plans to protest nationwide, only the following gathering details have been provided:

• Abuja: Federal Ministry of Justice

• Ekiti: Police Headquarters

• Lagos: Afe Babalola Chambers

Other protest sites may be announced at short notice. Participants will likely gather in the early morning. An increased police presence and localized traffic disruptions are likely near any protest site and potential march routes. Clashes with security forces are possible.
