As of the evening of Dec. 27, a police operation is underway near the Palacio do Gelo shopping center in Viseu after a shooting left at least one person dead and three others wounded during the late afternoon. The cause of the shooting is not immediately apparent. Authorities have reportedly evacuated the mall, and cordons and road closures remain in place. Reports indicate that a shooting suspect has allegedly left the scene and remains at large.
Authorities will likely maintain a heightened presence and road closures near the Palacio do Gelo through at least late Dec. 27. Additional police operations are possible throughout Viseu as police attempt to apprehend the suspect.
