UK: Ferry disruptions reported in Scotland Dec. 22 due to adverse weather
Adverse weather conditions disrupt ferry services in Scotland, UK, Dec. 22; increased demand for alternative modes of transport likely.
Adverse weather conditions have disrupted ferry services in Scotland on Dec. 22. The Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning (the lowest level on a three-tier scale) across much of Scotland that is slated to remain in effect until at least 21:00. Strong winds of 80-95 kph (50-60 mph) are widely forecast across the region, and gusts of 110 kph (70 mph) may affect some coastal and hilly areas. Several ferry operators, including Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac), NorthLink Ferries, and Western Ferries, have accordingly canceled many of their ferry services scheduled to run on Dec. 22.
Lingering disruptions may affect ferry services even after weather conditions improve, especially if operators need to clear passenger backlogs. The ferry disruptions will probably heighten demand for alternative modes of transport over the short term.
Confirm transport reservations if scheduled to travel via ferry. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
