Emergency crews are continuing their response to a railway accident in Delray Beach, Florida, as of the early afternoon of Dec. 28. The incident occurred at around 10:45 when a Brightline passenger train collided with a truck belonging to the city's fire department. Preliminary reports indicate that at least 12 of the train's passengers were injured in the incident, as were an unspecified number of the fire truck's crew members. There have as yet been no reports of fatalities.
Police have closed off Southeast First and Atlantic avenues to facilitate the response. Traffic disruptions are occurring in the area. Brightline rail service disruptions are likely along the affected line through at least late Dec. 28.
Avoid the scene of the accident until authorities have completed their response and given the all-clear. If traveling nearby, use alternative driving routes, such as Northeast First Avenue or Southeast Second Avenue to mitigate delays. Reconfirm train schedules if booked to travel on Brightline rail services, particularly between Boca Raton and points north, through the end of Dec. 28. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed.
