Lingering disruptions are possible into the late afternoon of Dec. 23 along Interstate Route 40 (I-40) east of Fayetteville, North Carolina, due to police activity in the area. Authorities have closed the thoroughfare to traffic as police apprehended a suspect in a shooting that had left one officer dead inside a Lion Food supermarket along Lawndale Drive in Greensboro during the late morning; police captured the suspected gunman on I-40 near the Duplin-Sampson county line some 225 km (140 miles) southeast of the shooting scene.
It remains unclear exactly how long I-40 will remain closed; disruptions could continue for several hours after the highway reopens.
